The UN Human Rights Council is an independent body within the UN system that was
created to address human rights violations and to work with member states to insure
that all people everywhere are afforded the rights and freedoms they are due as
human beings.
Created in March, 2006, the council is made up of 47 seats (member states). The
government of Timor-Leste feels that they would be able to make a valuable contribution
to the council if they were elected a seat. Please check this page often to learn
more about Timor-Leste's progress and its candidacy for a seat on the council.
