About Timor-Leste

 

Timor-Leste, also known as East Timor, is a small island nation in
Southeast Asia. Long held as a colony by the Portuguese, and later
occupied by Indonesian forces, Timor-Leste gained its independence and
became the first new sovereign state of the 21st century on May 20th, 2002.

On September 22, 2002, East Timor Joinend the United Nations as the 191st member.
